Poker Popularity
Online poker has exploded as one of the biggest industries not
just online but in the world. Revenues for online poker are in
excess of $200 million per month and rising all the time. Online
poker has proven to be far more popular and user friendly than
in person poker at a traditional brick and mortar casino.
At a brick and mortar casino poker is something that is grudgingly
offered to customers and players. The casinos hate poker rooms
in fact and make far more money when they remove poker rooms for
slot machines or other games. Again, the poker room is nothing
but a courtesy and also there for the hopes that the poker players
will stop and gamble on something else or dine in while they are
there. The only money that a brick and mortar casino makes off
of poker is from what is known as the “rake” which is the time
fee that the players pay to play there.
Compare that to an online poker room. The overhead is obviously
far less for the casino which means a better value for the player.
Beyond that the online poker rooms have significantly more options
that are offered to the player with high stakes expensive games
all the way down to games that are played for pennies per hand.
Another reason for online poker’s popularity is that an online
poker table is far less intimidating to newer players than a live
one. Players can start off at penny per hand tables and play anonymously
and without the fear of embarrassment.
