Poker Betting
The most popular poker game today is Texas Holdem. There
are many poker books that tell you what starting hands to
play but what do you do after that. The big decision after
deciding which hands to play is whether or not to bet after
the flop. Most of your decisions need to be based on the three
cards on the board and the two in your hand. If you hand does
not show good potential, meaning top pair, straight or flush
draw, you should fold if someone bets.
Once the action gets to the turn you are really ready to
either bet or fold. If you think you have the best hand, bet
it. A lot of people try and check here, hoping to get more
action on the river, but too many times you leave yourself
open to someone drawing. Many players stay in the hand too
long. You don’t catch a card to save you on the river very
often. Either bet or fold on the turn.
If you have any chance of winning the hand, then obviously
the choice is to bet the River. You don’t want to throw away
a potential winner. The River is also the opportunity to bluff
at the pot, but you better be sure before you go throwing
money into a pot you should not be in.
