Poker A Skilled Game or Not?
Do you think poker is just about the money or is it a game of
skill? Well there are some poker players that believe poker is
not just about the money, it’s also about the skills needed to
be a successful player. Some players have even attempted to explain
this concept to lawmakers.
The Miami Herald wrote and article that said; sometimes you have
to forget that poker games often take place in a casino (land
based or online) and it usually entails a lot of money. To be
honest poker really is a game of skill more so than a game of
chance.
If our lawmakers in the State Capital and Congress would think
of poker in the same way as the players, it would help to expand
online poker, and games of live poker, in places where poker is
still illegal. For example in Florida, poker is already legal
and there internet poker players’ benefit from the increase gambling
options.
If poker is considered a skill game by the federal government,
it could be exempt from the UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gambling
Enforcement Act) that passed Congress in 2006. Poker players are
optimistic about the subject and they really believe that lawmakers
will consider poker games as they do. The debate about poker has
been involved in court cases in Pennsylvania, Colorado and South
Carolina. I say why not make it legal, if you can gamble in a
casino and it‘s legal, then a player should be able to play from
the comfort of their computer and not have to worry about it being
a crime.
